The old man's actions, words, and thoughts are very unique. He always is talking to himself. I do not think this does not mean he is delusional or going crazy. He is alone so this is his way of reflecting and thinking about what he is doing on the sea. He also is very precise about everything he does. Even thought he has probably done numerous times he still make sure he does it right by naming the steps in his heads. Also I think the Crist figure motif is valid. The most convincing one is the way his hands are briused. However there are others such as him being good with kids, very humble, etc. I am starting to wonder what happened to the "eyes" motif...
When I was first reading... I thought Santiago was delusional or going crazy because he was talking to himself! After the discussion in class I realized i would be doing the same thing. Especially if I was alone for 3 long days!
