In The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway Santiago went out to go catch a fish but he went to far away from land. He is in battle with fish and while he is in battle he starts to connect with the fish. The fish finally is caught and Santiago is exhsauted. Then a pack of sharks comes to eat the fish. The old man try to fight the sharks but they keep eating pieces of the fish. He really starts to miss Manolin and he kept wishing for him. A motif of this book is strength because Santiago really needed to be strong. Another motif is pride because one of the main reasons why Santiago caught the fish is because of his pride. When he goes back to Cuba he is injured and only the bones offish lasted.
