The Old Man And The Sea is a novella with a very strong and confident main character. Though he does not believe in religion he is a Christ figure because, he is good with children, unmarried, spent time alone in the wilderness, and thinks the world is unworthy. Almost every creature he sees in the sea he labels them as, beautiful, strong and confident which shows that he is a caring and strong character himself. The thing that I would want to know is, why is he pushing himself so much?
I believe that he is pushing himself because it was his eighty-fourth day without any fish and he has been living mostly on water. In the middle of the story, he also stated that the marlin was his "brother" and felt devoted to catch that giant fish.
